[Trombone-l] New student and dental issues

When I had my wisdom teeth removed...at 19? They were impacted and they
hurt for a while after. I think I took at least a month off. I'd say the
student should see what the oral surgeon says and how they feel. Dry socket
and other negative post operative issues aren't worth an extra week or two
off the horn. They could do some listening and practice rhythm or aural
exercises when not playing.

As far as method books. Brad Edwards Intermediate Trombone is really good.
Someone recorded the duet parts on YouTube. I'm big on students having
audio to play along with, really helps their pitch and time.

If you have the student get Brad's book get yourself the duet parts.

Depending on the student I like to have them use Mike Davis' Brass Buzz
(beginning), then there's a good warm up in Brad Edwards book, or 10/15/20
minute warm up of Mike Davis' depending on their level.

I also like David Vining's Routines for the Student Trombonist.
