The Indiana University of Pennsylvania Trombone Choir, under the direction of Christian Dickinson, will premier my new work "Silver San Juan Suite" in concert on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The work is in four movements, based upon a remote area of the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado that was once served by the Rio Grande Southern Railroad. Movement I, "Lizard Head" is based on a 13,000+ peak that tops out with a towering rock formation, making it one of the most spectacular peaks in Colorado. Movement II, "Trout Lake" recreates the gentle lapping of waves on this mile long lake located at 10,000 feet above sea level. Movement III, "Ophir Loop" is comprised of two jigs that are heard separately and then together, a tribute to the men & women who built and worked this area. One hears the echo as we make our way around the loop. The last movement, "Telluride" is a jazz inspired call and response, saluting the towns raucous past and current status as one of the premier four-season resorts in the United States.

The performance is part of the university brass area showcase, featuring the four studio ensembles and the brass choir. It will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOp2Qx_TMGM beginning at 7:00 pm 4-18-2019.
