Friday night as I was taking out the trash I fell and stumbled into my wife?s car. The result: I hit my head and broke my right shoulder. The doc says it is so bad it will require a complete replacement...the only question is will he use the existing parts to rebuild my shoulder or will he punt and put in a reverse shoulder...(socket on the arm bone and the ball on the shoulder.) Anybody on the list had this kind of surgery? What was the recovery time? Lasting effects??? Let?s start a conversation on this type of surgery...I?ve already had to punt 2 gigs because of this. And , yes, it hurts like hell!! My surgery will be Thursday. Thanks, Ralph Ralph W. Like the tombone stands, they're not cheap, but the heavy duty models are very sturdy and the tables fold up completely. Lighter duty models are still sturdy and probably better suited for travel than anything with a non-folding table. Of course, YMMV. I used to carry a rag/towel in my bag for those times when there might be no acceptable alternative, but putting that used towel back in my bag at the end of the gig?especially when someone was watching?would really gross me (and them) out. A better solution is to take the outter slide off and pour the water onto the inner slide then quickly replacing the outter slide before too much spills on the hardwood floor or carpet. It?s the art of deception as most of the water appears to be being recycled back into the horn. When confronted, I adamantly explain that ?it?s NOT spit, it just condensation!? I asked him if he?d seen a doctor about it and he said yes. I also asked if he kept his horn clean. Also yes. Then I was watching the band in the band room one day and he put a rag on the floor to catch his spit per the band director?s request of all brass players, then I saw him pick it up and clean his mouthpiece with it and throw it back down on the floor. Eew. I walked up to him after rehearsal and made a suggestion...I said why not carry two rags. One goes on the floor, the other you use to clean your mouthpiece. Put the one on the floor in a Ziploc bag he before you put it back in your case. Cough went away.
