I seem to have collected many mutes of varying sizes and types over the years.
I don't need them often, but want to hang on to them as I do need them occasionally.
Is there anything special I should do to protect them to preserve their longevity for when I do need to use them?

Great question, I don't have a good answer. Probably best to be in a
climate-controlled and stored in boxes/containers to keep them from getting
smashed.
